WILLIAM EPPS CORMACK

Having set out 5th September, 1822, from Trinity Bay with the object of crossing the unmapped interior of Newfoundland on foot, William Epps Cormack, accompanied by Joseph Sylvester, a Micmac Indian, reached the shore of Bay St. George in this locality on 2nd November. The exploration yielded valuable data on the flora, fauna and geology of the interior which were published in the Edinburgh Philosophical Journal, 1823-24.

Born in St. John's, Nfld.

Died in New Westminster, B.C.
