MARGARET IRIS DULEY - (1894-1968) Born in St. John's, Duley's brief period of creative writing was concentrated in the 1930s and 1940s. The first Newfoundland novelist to attain international recognition, she enjoyed a wide readership in Canada and England as well as at home. Her novels, such as Cold Pastoral and Highway to Valour, abound with vivid images of the beauty and harshness of her homeland, and are descriptive of life in early 20th century Newfoundland and Labrador. Her works are a significant contribution to Canadian literature and Newfound land culture. She died at St. John's. Né à Saint-Jean, Margaret Duley a surtout écrit dans les années 1930 et 1940. Première romancière terre-neuvienne qui ait atteint la renommé internationale, elle a joui d'une immense popularité au Canada et en Angleterre ainsi que dans la région où elle est né. Ses romans, comme Cold Pastoral et Highway to Valour, qui décrivent la vie coloniale du XXe siècle à Terre-Neuve et au Labrador, décrivent abondamment les beautés et les aspérités de sa terre natale.
